Some Quick Reads

A man from Englad paid $40,000 on eBay for a date with Scarlett Johansson. The money will benefit Oxfam International, a "confederation of 13 organizations working together with over 3,000 partners in more than 100 countries to find lasting solutions to poverty and injustice" according to Oxfam.org. Great idea, right? But why do famous women see "selling themselves" as being the easiest way to get people to donate to charity? (Charlize Theron did the same thing in 2002.)

An 83-year-old lady, Bernie Garcia, refused to give her purse up to a would-be thief, even after she was dragged on the ground.

Looks like people are beginning to realize that women have money. And they buy cars, too. But are the things women want in cars really that different than what men want?

  1. I think while it can be interpreted that SJ was "selling" herself for charity, that the circumstances could just as easily be that people in general, men and women, fantasize about relationships with famous glamorous people. You can't tell me that a million screaming women wouldn't do the same for a date with Johnny Depp. I think the core issue here is the value and marketability of celebrity, and not the objectification of a woman. It could be a little of column a and a little of column b.
