A Thought on Defining Feminism

I watched Little Children last night, a very intense movie about the confinment of life in the suburbs. The movie was harsh and sad, but it gave a thought-provoking defintion of feminism:

"It's the hunger - the hunger for an alternative and the refusal to accept a life of unhappiness."

Very cool.

  1. I'm a big fan of this one - "I myself have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is: I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat." - Rebecca West, 1913.

Her Return of the Soldier is a pretty good post WW1 novel, by the way.

  3. An incredible film. That line always stuck with me because it comes from a complex scene, but it's true. Why waste away and fill the roll (in this case, the bored, suburban housewife) they want you to when you could have it so much better?
