I wonder if this is by a prostitute.
Yeah, this one totally went over my head. Why is it titles truth? The picture of a girl that looks like she has a secret kind of contradicts that idea doesn't it? Maybe I'm just looking at this the wrong way? If you devalue sex do you really think it devalues rape? That would be like saying devaluing pleasure will devalue pain. That doesn't quite make sense to me...
I saw this on postsecret too - i have such mixed reactions to it. But mostly, I think anyway a survivor needs to deal with rape is fine (granted devaluing sex doesn't seem like she's "dealing with it" at all). I think in this case therapy and refraining from victim blame can go a long way...Thanks for visiting my blog!On your first post you wrote about hosting a radio show - i think that's awesome, you should absolutely write more about that!!
I edited the title because I was not sure what Kate meant by "Truth." I have not discussed it with her yet, but that was my decision, just to make the post a little less ambiguous.
I titled the post "Truth" because all the secrets sent into Postsecret are true to the writer; they are somebody's unique truth. Either way, this secret was emotional for me, and I just wanted to share it.
This makes no sense to me, at all. Is it saying that if girls whore it out, people will stop raping them? I'm sorry, most guys don't rape girls. It is only sick people who would do that, and they usually do it for the feeling of power. Having a girl willing sleep with them do not give them those feelings, so that won't stop it. It seems to me this chick just wants an excuse to be a whore.
I think the postcard is trying to say that the rape hurt her so, so much in such a terrible way because sex had previously been such a wonderful part of her life, that if she can somehow make sex less special or nice or about love that somehow the rape will seem like less of a violation because sex is supposed to be uncomfortable, painful, or dirty.I don't know if my thought process translated well there. But, thats my analysis.
