Happy Mother's Day!

I can't be with my mom this Mother's Day, but I would like to say thanks to her. Sometimes I think that she encouraged me to become a feminist because she was a strong role model and she passed that strength on to me.

She used to play this song a lot when I was younger. She called it her "anthem."

Thanks, Mom!

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there!

I love India Arie! I listened to this song almost every morning as a young thing in undergrad (yeah, yeah - like when I was your age!) I'd play it before I left for class - or before walking over to the Women's Center to get my assignments for the weekly radio program I wrote for! Thanks for the nostalgia and for keeping the young feminist tradition strong!

Before you were conceived I wanted you.
Before you were born I loved you.

Suddenly you were here and I was a mother, your mother, loving and encouraging you to be you.

I loved my strong willed child because it knew it meant your voice would always be heard.

I am so proud of you Amelia for the strong woman you have become and honored to be your mom.

Loved the post and yes it made me cry. love you!!

Mothers' Day is an extremely sexist holiday... just so you know.
