Empowerment, Inc.

New York Times Magazine has an article on Tyra Banks this week.
Although the article spends a lot of time trying to convince you that Tyra is actually smart (I swear, she is. Really. Honestly.), it is an interesting read about Tyra's brand of "empowerment."

I sense sarcasm? As much as we hate on Tyra, i really don't think we should deny her intelligence, i mean, she has made an incredibly successful brand of/for herself - that's pretty smart if you ask me.

No, I agree. I think she is a very smart woman. The sarcasm was directed at the article because nearly every other paragraph had a quote from someone that basically said, "Wow. I didn't think supermodels were smart, but Tyra really is!" The sentiment got a little old a few pages in because I believed it the first time.

Often times I think Tyra Bank's heart/motivations are admirable, but she loses me on the delivery. She's for body acceptance, but then she has 10+ seasons of a modeling show where a size 8 is plus size? To me, it's kinda like saying "do what I say, not what i do." However, there could be/are far worse role models out there, so Tyra's (mostly) ok in my book.
