I want to try something, but I'll need your help.
I want to get to know our readers, all of you, even if you don't normally comment on this blog. Stop by the comments (make sure to attach some sort of name to your comment so I can tell people apart), and drop me a line.
You can just say hello, or tell me a little about yourself (how you found this blog, how often you read it, etc.).
I'll even start us off with a little bit about me.
I'm Amelia. I'm 20 years old, and I started the Female Impersonator blog last year after I took my first Gender and Women's Studies class at Knox College. That was when I first began to identify as a feminist, and since then I have spent a lot of time reading news stories and thinking critically about my actions and my life, which I feel has helped me grow as a person.
So, readers, what about you?

My name is Ellie. I'm a Computer Science major at Knox. I've never taken a GWST class, but I've been exposed to a lot of feminist theory through my friends and stuff I read online. Also, as a queer woman, a minority in my field (women are very underrepresented in CS, and for a while, I was the only one in the department at Knox. Now we have two?), a cultural/social outcast, an enviornmentalist, and so on--I'm constantly thinking about and re-evaluating issues of social roles, oppression, and how I can rethink my existence.
Hey Amelia! I have your blog bookmarked so I can read it when I think of it. I always enjoy your take on things, as well as the other people who post. I also took Women, Culture, & Society, and it was so good for me! I am now a GWST major and identify as a feminist and love it.
Hey Amelia. I'm actually Rob from downstairs in case you didn't know--I just like this name. I read your blog whenever you say something on facebook. That lets me know that something interesting has just been posted. You make some strong, intelligent points that I find very thought provoking. Keep up the good work!
I'm Martha Baumgarten and I've been reading Female Impersonators since the 2nd or 3rd post. I was in Intro to Gender and Women's Studies with Amelia and Kate. :-)
Hi,
I'm Tasha. I'm 21 years old. I've identified as a feminist since I was a small child and barely knew what feminism was. I'm a gender and women's studies minor at Knox College and focus especially on literature by feminists and feminists of color. I often think of blog posts to write and then I do not do it, but I read the large majority of posts. I struggle a lot with my feminist identity and what particularly I believe in.
Your turn.
Just want to say a general "thanks for the comments" to everyone. I was (very pleasantly) surprised to see some of your names, since I haven't gotten many comments from all of you.
Really appreciate you taking the time to read the blog. :)
Hi,
My name is Pablo. I'm a student at CSULB. I ran into your blog when I was googling graphic design and read your Yale Women Center post. Since then I've been coming back.
I'm Daisy, and I have a daughter older than you. :) It doesn't bother me if it doesn't bother you.
Old hippie, working class, herbalist, vegetarian, redneck, Catholic, not necessarily in that order.
My name is Kate and I'm a school librarian at an international school in Switzerland. I started getting into feminist thought and theory through a graduate course I'm taking, so I looked around the blogosphere for feminist-slanted blogs and found yours. :)
I'm Joss, I don't recall how I found your blog, but I now subscribe via google reader so I read whenever there is a new post. I'm studying to be a translator at a bible college in australia. I am a christian, a hippy and a feminist (not necessarily in that order) and while many would argue that I cannot be all three (or even any two) I would say they are wrong - I even wrote an essay on it.
Hi Amelia. My name is Rachel, I'm 24 years old and live in Cambridge, UK. I think I found your blog through a comment somewhere else - probably Feministe or The F-Word? I've been a feminist my whole life, learnt the word for it at four years old, and wish I could get it together to blog more about feminism like you. Keep it up!
My name is Katrina. I'm relatively new to blogging, but not to feminism... mum, reading, uni- all those things have contributed to my interest in gender studies. My slightly ridiculous and lonely mission is to reclaim the proverbial "trousers" in Scotland, due to an awareness of Scotland as a particularly miserable place to be a woman, an awareness that has grown the longer I've spent abroad.
I came across your blog whilst browsing for Scottish feminist blogs... there are, unsurprisingly, very few! However, I look at the feminist blogs out there, like Female Impersonator, and the potential for reach and influence, and I feel inspired to spend more time on my own blog- the hard and lonely work that it is!
Thanks for giving me the motivation.
I really feel honored to know that so many different people are reading this blog. How cool!
Again, thank you for the time you spend here. I feel lucky to have such interesting readers. :)
Hello!
I'm Froth. I live in Yorkshire in the UK, I LARP, sew, sing, bake, and occasionally study, and I get really irritated by the way women are treated and trying to speak American.
Hi, people call me Snowdrop because I didn't object quickly enough when that nickname was suggested - but also I quite like some of the association that go with being the first flower after winter.
I read whenever you post to Feministe's "Shameless Self-promotion Sunday", and sometimes when others link you as well - you're one of the names I look for in the SSS each week!
I'm a male feminist who grew up with a more-or-less feminist household (and certainly, my mother was the main breadwinner); I've done the whole lot, though, and even been the Nice Guy(tm) at one stage (shame on me). I have learned to listen and learned a lot since then. I'm very kinky and gender-variant. I play guitar, double bass, ukulele and mandolin; I write fiction and I'm currently out of work. I'm a Christian, but also a heretic (there's even technical names for my heresies!); a Marxian leftwing revolutionary (but I hate change). I'm another Brit, with ethnic/genetic heritage from Irish tinkers, Romany folk, Irish Celtic families and Yorkshire roots (Yorkshire is still my spiritual home, though I am far away right now).
I'm Lyndsay. I'm Canadian. I'm graduating with a Bachelor in Arts and Science with minors in biology and psychology soon. I'm still living off student loans as any job is hard to get in this economy. I am enjoying reading, cooking, biking etc in my free time. In September I'll be going to teacher's college in Toronto in order to teach biology and social sciences. That'll take nine months. I've always like to think about what and how people should be taught.
I'm Allison. I'm a writer. I'm working on my PhD now, in English. My thesis is on representations of female and queer bodies in pop music. I've been a feminist for a long time, but have only started to be outspoken since I've been some amazing feminist mentors in the last several years who have taught me by example that we can change minds and change the world. I love this blog, because you are so obviously passionate, angry, compassionate, and strong. When I have moments of feeling discouraged because of the many injustices in the world, I read writing such as yours to remember that there are other people who care. You're comforting and inspiring.
Hello, I'm hexy. I'm a Sydney-based queer, Indigenous, sex-working, non-neurotypical feminist. I started my blog a while back after a thread on my LJ on feminism dissolved into a massive flamewar, and I decided I needed a separate space for my rantings.
I generally only read you through the Feministe SSS, but I always look forward to your entires.
Er, entries.
My name is Mira. I am 22 years old, with an interest in dance, anthropology, international relations, gardening, cooking and traveling. i have your blog bookmarked! i am developing my interest in gender studies and i think that this blog is very thought provoking, and inspires me to continually reevaluate my role as a woman, a minority and a christian in this society.
Sorry to be a little delayed, but I just graduated from Yale Divinity School a week ago, moved back from Connecticut to Minnesota and am searching for work (pretty much of any kind... surprisingly enough, a masters in religion isn't the most useful degree ever). I've been reading and blogging here for over a year and am so glad that Amelia founded the site. It's given me a place to explore my own thoughts deeper and engage with these really important issues on a regular basis. I've got a lot of interests in the feminist sphere, but most specifically the intersections of religion, Christianity, feminism, and pop culture (most specifically films). I'm a fierce supporter of gay marriage within religious institutions and gay ordination. Since I went to college in Minnesota and now have returned here, many of my posts have a Minnesotan focus.
@Vetiver
I'd love to read your thesis sometime, if you're in the mood for sharing.
Hi, Amelia. I'm Anonymous.
I'm sorry, I couldn't resist.
Hi, Anonymous. Glad you showed up. You seem to be one of the most frequent commenters on this blog. :)
I'm Saranga. I'm a 29 year old feminist living in Norfolk, UK and working for a women's organisation. I am bisexual but am considering using another label. I have been a feminist all my life, thanks to my mother who brought me up to be proud of being a woman and not take any crap about it. However it's only in the last few years I have felt comfortable identifying as a feminist in public.
I think I found you via The F Word and I love the blog title.
I am very concerned with women's representations in popular culture and the media, specifically in comics, and so I blog a lot (but not exclusively) about comics.
I recognise a few of the names above, *waves to those I know*.
I found your lovely blog thanks to Feministe's Shameless Self-Promotion Sunday. Now I have you bookmarked.
My name is Dawn and I live in Ohio (it sucks). I'm 21 years old, a feminist, a woman of color, a writer, and a barista. I'm a lover of sundresses, falafel wraps, good conversation, and good beer.
I was forced to leave my university for financial reasons, but when I return (damn recession!) I'd like to complete my BA in English and Gender Studies. I am bisexual but have a certain disdain for the label because it implies there are only two genders, which is bogus. I actually came out as polysexual but everyone thought it had some correlation with polygamy and I got too tired explaining it to everyone.
