McCain: Obama flipflops on the World Series

I swear to God, I thought this was an Onion article when my roommate read it aloud:

McCain in baseball election play

US Republican presidential candidate John McCain has accused his rival, Barack Obama, of supporting both teams playing in the baseball World Series.

The baseball championship series begins on Wednesday, and both teams - the Tampa Bay Rays and the Philadelphia Phillies - are from key swing states.

Senator McCain said Mr Obama backed the Phillies when in Pennsylvania and rooted for Tampa Bay when in Florida.

But the Obama campaign said that its candidate was a Chicago White Sox fan.

Speaking in Pennsylvania, Mr McCain said: "Now, I'm not dumb enough to get mixed up in a World Series between swing states.

"But I think I may have detected a little pattern with Senator Obama. It's pretty simple really. When he's campaigning in Philadelphia, he roots for the Phillies, and when he's campaigning in Tampa Bay, he 'shows love' to the Rays.

"It's kind of like the way he campaigns on tax cuts, but then votes for tax increases after he's elected."

OMFG. Can we just elect Obama and get rid of having to listen to McCain already?

hahah I was on the BBC homepage this morning, and my first thought upon reading the headline was that McCain was saying that Obama gave money to put teams or something. I didn't even bother actually reading it, although I did take the time to think, "Great, we're back to covering the important issues."

This is just stupid.

McCain really has nothing to go on, does he? I cannot wait until November to be done and over with so this bullshit will (hopefully) die down.

Ha. The Daily Show did a nice send up of this story last night, where they showed Palin pandering to not one, not two, but *three* baseball teams. So even McCain's outrage over this "controversy" is disingenuous.

McCain obviously knows nothing about baseball. A White Sox fan can support both teams in this World Series, because the White Sox didn't face either team in the playoffs. From a fan's perspective, this is not controversial. This World Series has nothing to do with the White Sox, so it doesn't make a difference who Obama supports. Rudy Giuliani rooting for the Red Sox in the World Series last year was controversial, since he's a Yankees fan. He gave some excuse about how he supports the American League team because the Yankees are in the AL, but you never root for a rival team. The only time a Yankees fan can support a Red Sox player is during the All-Star game. I'm a huge Mets fan, and I'm not rooting for the Phillies just because they're in the same league as the Mets. I'm rooting against them because the Phillies and Mets are rivals, and you just don't root for a rival team. Period. So yeah. McCain has no clue what he's talking about when comes to baseball and Obama's voting record.
